How To Stop Anxiety Attacks

If you have been experiencing anxiety attacks and you would like to know how to stop anxiety attacks, it is necessary to identify the causes of your anxiety attacks. Technically, you won’t be able to determine how to stop anxiety attacks unless you don’t know the exact cause for it.

The causes for the anxiety attacks are different for each person. One person may experience attacks whenever far away from home while another person may have such attacks whenever in an enclosed environment.


For some people, the task on how to stop anxiety attacks can be very overwhelming, especially if they have witnessed or experienced the physical symptoms of these anxiety attacks. Generally speaking, when a person experiences anxiety attack, it is the body’s coping mechanism to stress. Stress can be physical or environmental factors that would trigger the attack. The person experiences anxiety because of the protective mechanism because the environmental factors pose as a threat or danger for that person. There are some ways on how to minimize the physical symptoms of the anxiety attacks until it will eventually stop. Usually, when anxiety attacks, the person suffers from difficulty of breathing and rapid heart rate. This is because the person feels that he/she is unable to breathe. Because of that, they will become more anxious. To be able to stop this, the first thing to do is to take deep breaths.  You can perform these deep breathing exercises and exhale air in a slow manner.

On the other hand, if you want to permanently stop the attacks, you need to undergo a special therapy which is supervised by a medical professional. One example of that would be behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy targets the change of behavior of the individual towards the environmental trigger that causes the anxiety.

In behavioral therapy, the person is taught about healthy coping mechanisms which will help them to reduce stress and relax. They are also taught on how to adapt whenever they are faced with the trigger which causes them to feel anxious. The therapist will also help the patient to identify the environmental or physical triggers which will enable the patient to further help in stopping the anxiety attacks.
