When your body has this adrenaline rush, it increases your blood supply. To prevent this, you much stop the flow of adrenaline mentally. The way most people do this, is to first just relax. If you don’t relax, it can make your panic and anxiety attacks worse. One thing you can do to help you relax is breathe deeply. If you take slow, deep breaths it can help you dramatically and could be the only thing you need to do to control your attacks. This can help you start to control your anxiety level and thus eliminating panic attacks. When you are doing the breathing exercise, breathe as slow as you can, in through your nose, and out through your mouth. You can also try to hold your breath for a short period of time.
Next, you should talk yourself through what is going on. You can be your own support system. Close your eyes and relax, and remind yourself that what is happening can be helped and you can do it. Remember to stay calm and relax. Continue to talk yourself through the attack. Free your mind of everything except your relief. Freaking out about what is going on is not going to make it any better, and could potentially make it worse, so it is very important that you are keeping calm. You can also remind yourself that once you have completely calmed down, your panic attack could no longer exist and that could be your incentive.
With learning how to treat panic and anxiety attacks yourself, you do not have to rely on medication or other means to get you through them. This can become very helpful when you are out in public. Remember that if your panic and anxiety attack becomes too much for you to handle, you can revert back to treatment or medications, but you now know how to treat them yourself, which can make everything a lot easier on you.
